Thai Government Oks State Agencies To Borrow $1.35 Billion Offshore
BANGKOK -(Dow Jones)- Thailand's Cabinet Tuesday approved the plans of three state enterprises to borrow a combined $1.35 billion in funds from abroad to finance their projects.
Of the total, $563.4 million will be borrowed from the Japan International Cooperation Agency to fund part of a Bangkok electric rail project, known locally as the purple line, the government's deputy spokesman Vachara Kannikar said.
Some $662 million will be borrowed to help TOT PCL, formerly Telephone Organization of Thailand, finance the establishment of a third-generation telecommunication network, while the remainder will be borrowed to fund the State Railway of Thailand's plan to procure new engine car trains and cargo carriages, he said.
